Read more in dept about the Basic Service

Our Basic Service is designed to provide couples with all the necessary guidance and support for a smooth and stress-free marriage application process in Denmark. This package ensures that you are fully prepared with the correct documentation, have a clear understanding of the steps involved, and receive assistance on your wedding day, without the need for additional services like photographers or post-wedding formalities. Below is a detailed breakdown of what’s included in the Basic Service.

Full detailed documentation list

The foundation of any successful marriage application in Denmark is having the right documents. Our Basic Service includes a comprehensive documentation list tailored to your unique circumstances. Whether you’re an international couple, from the EU, or a mixed-nationality couple, we provide a fully detailed list outlining the specific documents you will need to gather, such as:

  • Valid passports or national ID cards.
  • Proof of current marital status (whether single, divorced, or widowed).
  • Residency permits (if applicable).

This documentation list is crafted based on your nationality and individual situation, ensuring you have everything required to submit your application without unnecessary delays. By following this list, you’ll avoid common mistakes like missing or incorrect documentation, which could result in delays or rejections from the Danish authorities.

Guidance on gathering and preparing documents

Collecting and preparing the necessary documents can often be the most time-consuming part of getting married abroad. As part of our Basic Service, we provide you with step-by-step guidance on how to gather, prepare, and present your documents correctly. This includes:

  • Assistance in obtaining translations if your documents are not in Danish, English, German, or French.
  • Tips on how to certify and legalize your documents if necessary.
  • Guidance on where to obtain any missing documents, such as divorce certificates or birth certificates.

We ensure that all documents meet the Danish government’s requirements, giving you peace of mind that everything is in order before submission. This guidance helps prevent mistakes and speeds up the application process by ensuring everything is correct from the start.

Coordination of your eeremony date

Once your documents are in order, and your application is approved, we help you with coordinating the date of your wedding ceremony. With the Basic Service, we work with Danish City Halls to secure a date that fits your schedule, providing options based on availability.

  • We assist you in choosing your preferred City Hall from various beautiful and iconic locations across Denmark, ensuring you have the perfect setting for your wedding day.
  • By keeping you updated on available dates, we help you lock in a time and date that suits your needs, minimizing the wait time.

Our coordination efforts help streamline the process and ensure that the ceremony date fits within your overall wedding timeline.

Assistance on your wedding day

Even with the Basic Service, we understand how important it is to have support on your wedding day. Our team is here to offer assistance on your special day, ensuring everything runs smoothly. This includes:

  • Answering any last-minute questions or concerns you may have.
  • Providing guidance on the ceremony process at City Hall, so you know what to expect.
  • Offering advice on any formalities or traditions involved, especially if you’re unfamiliar with Danish customs.

By offering assistance on the day of your wedding, we ensure that the entire experience is stress-free and enjoyable, allowing you to focus on celebrating your love.

Witness information

It is a legal requirement that two witnesses attend every wedding ceremony in Denmark. These witnesses can be family members, friends, or individuals you select. If you prefer, the city hall can also arrange witnesses for you.

  • Weekday Ceremonies: For weddings held at city halls on weekdays, witnesses are typically provided at no additional charge. This makes it convenient for couples who may not have anyone available to attend.
  • Weekend Ceremonies: Some city halls may require you to bring one or two witnesses of your own for weekend weddings. It’s advisable to confirm the specific requirements with your chosen city hall in advance to ensure you meet all necessary criteria.
  • Witness Requirements: It’s important to note that witnesses must be at least 18 years old. They need to be present during the ceremony to sign the marriage license alongside the couple, which is a crucial part of making your marriage legally binding.

€255 Application fee NOT included

It is important to note that the €255 application fee for the Danish Agency of Family Law (AFL) is not included in the Basic Service package. This fee is a mandatory charge required by the Danish government for processing your marriage application. You will be responsible for paying this fee directly to the government when submitting your documents. Although this fee is separate from our services, we provide full guidance on how and when to make the payment to ensure that everything is completed correctly and on time.

FAQ

How quickly can I get married?

If you have all the required documents ready, we can make your wedding application immediately.
When the application is submitted, the Danish government can issue an approval in as little as five working days

Once approved, we can book your ceremony.

We have helped couples marry in under ten days from application to ceremony.

Please note this is a situation dependent on the government office processing time.

How long does the marriage application process take?

You only need to be in Denmark at the time of your wedding ceremony. There are no rules as to how long before or after the ceremony, you need to stay in Denmark.

What is the ceremony like?

The Danish wedding ceremony is short. A city hall wedding will last around ten minutes. Usually, there are some words spoken by the registrar, maybe a poem, then the legal vows are exchanged (you can write your own vows too), followed by the signing of your marriage license. All locations have beautiful ceremony rooms where the wedding will take place.

Can I change my name on my wedding day?

You cannot change your name in Denmark (unless you are Danish). But changing your name and registering your wedding should be straightforward when you return to your home country. Check with the office of “Births, Deaths, and Marriages” or with your embassy if you live outside of your home country.

Do we need witnesses for the wedding ceremony?

It is a legal requirement that two witnesses attend every wedding ceremony in Denmark, these can be family or friends, or they can be arranged by the city hall. In Denmark, witnesses are always organized for you if you need them in any City Hall for a weekday ceremony – there is no extra charge for witnesses on a weekday.

Some City Halls will require you to bring one or two witnesses for a wedding on weekends.
